Introductory Course Info HE
The Essential Digital Skills – Advanced course has been designed by subject experts to support learners in gaining the essential digital skills needed for everyday life, work, and further learning. Despite the "Advanced" title, the course is aimed at individuals who are new to digital technology or who lack confidence in using digital devices. -
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this course. It is suitable for learners with little or no previous digital experience. A basic ability to read and understand simple instructions in English is recommended to support learning and assessment activities. -

The course covers the following five key digital skill areas:Using Devices and Handling Information
Using computers, tablets, and smartphones
Managing files, folders, and basic device settings
Searching for, selecting, and storing information

Course Structure
The Essential Digital Skills – Advanced course is structured around the national Essential Digital Skills framework and delivered at Entry Level 3. The course aims to develop the skill areas in digital knowledge progressively. Learns will gain confidence in delivering as a combination of guided instruction, practical activities, and real-life digital tasks to support skill development and confidence. -
Assessment Details
Assessment is portfolio-based and completed through practical tasks that demonstrate the learner's ability to apply digital skills in real-life scenarios. There are no formal exams. Learners are assessed against the Entry Level 3 Essential Digital Skills standards and supported throughout the assessment process. -
Teaching and Learning
Teaching and learning are delivered through a supportive, learner-centred approach. Sessions include tutor-led demonstrations, hands-on practical activities, group discussion, and individual support. Learners are encouraged to build confidence through real-life digital tasks that reflect everyday and workplace situations.
