This course is suitable for:

  • Introductory Course Info HE


    The Essential Digital Skills – Excel focus course has been designed by subject experts to support learners in gaining the essential digital skills. Despite the "Advanced" title, the course is aimed at individuals who are developing in their digital technology journey or who lack confidence in using digital skills.

  • Entry Requirements


    There are no formal entry requirements for this course. It is suitable for learners with little or no previous digital experience. A basic ability to read and understand simple instructions in English is recommended to support learning and assessment activities.

    The course covers the following five key digital skill areas:

    *Handling data

    *Managing files and folders

    *Searching for, selecting, and storing information

    *Creating and Editing spreadsheets

    *Editing and formatting basic digital content

    *Saving and sharing files

    and more.

    The Essential Digital Skills course is an Excel/spreadsheet focus course, it is structured around the national Essential Digital Skills framework.

    The course aims to develop the skill areas in digital knowledge progressively. Learns will gain confidence in delivering and preparing their digital skills through a combination of guided instruction, practical activities, and real-life digital tasks to support skill development and confidence.

  • Assessment Details


    Assessment is through practical tasks that demonstrate the learner's ability to apply digital skills in real-life scenarios. There are no formal exams.

  • Teaching and Learning


    Teaching and learning are delivered through a supportive, learner-centred approach. Sessions include tutor-led demonstrations, hands-on practical activities, group discussion, and individual support. Learners are encouraged to build confidence through real-life digital tasks that reflect everyday and workplace situations.
